In short
The file service is a trade-to-trade service: your garage reads the ECU on your customer's car with its own tool, sends us the original file, and we return the modified file (Stage, Eco, functions, gearbox adjustments or back to stock) for you to write. We develop every file in WinOLS with a verifiable EVC licence, starting from the exact software in that ECU rather than a generic file. Before reading, message us with the vehicle and the tool so we can confirm we can do it. The price is on request depending on the job, and we give you the turnaround time once we receive the file. It's for garages in the Community of Madrid (the Madrid region) and nearby areas.
What exactly is it, and who is it for?
ECU remapping involves two different jobs: reading and writing the ECU, which requires having the car in front of you and the right tool, and developing the file, which requires knowing the software in each ECU, having the licensed editing software and experience with maps. Many garages have the first and don't want to, or can't, spend time on the second. The file service splits the two jobs: you read and write, we develop.
It suits you if:
- You have a read/write tool and know how to use it safely (stable power supply, correct reading method, backup copy).
- Customers ask you for remaps and you don't want to send them to another garage.
- You'd rather the file was developed by someone who works with WinOLS every day and with an EVC WinOLS licence (verifiable at evc.de).
If you don't have a tool or don't want to take on the reading and writing, see remote coding or ask us to come to your garage: we explain it in mobile service.
What do you need to send us?
With every file
- Original file
- Complete and unmodified, exactly as it comes out of the read
- Tool and method
- Which tool you read it with and whether it was via the diagnostic port, on the bench or in boot mode
- Vehicle
- Make, model, engine, year and gearbox type (manual or automatic)
- ECU
- Make, model and the hardware and software numbers shown in the read
- What you want
- Stage, Eco, specific functions, gearbox adjustment or back to stock
- Condition of the car
- Any faults it has and any non-original parts fitted
The most important point is the first one. If the file has already been modified by another tuner and there's no original, we don't know what we're starting from: we'll tell you and assess whether the factory software can be recovered before doing anything.
How does it work, from enquiry to delivery?
Initial enquiry
before reading, you message us with the vehicle, the ECU (if you know it) and the tool. We confirm whether we can do it and which reading method is best.
Sending the original
you send us the file with the details from the list above, via file upload, by WhatsApp (641 125 798) or by email (info@reprogramacionesmbv.com).
File check
we check that it's complete, that it matches that vehicle and that it hasn't already been modified. If something doesn't add up, we tell you before we start.
Development
we modify the file in WinOLS for that engine and that ECU, according to what you've asked for and the condition you've told us about.
Return
we send you the modified file and tell you whether the checksum has been corrected or whether your tool corrects it when writing.
Writing and checking
you write it, clear the fault codes and check the car. If something isn't working as it should, you send us the fault code read and we go through it with you.
What can you order through the file service?
| Job | What else we need | Page |
|---|---|---|
| Stage 1 | Standard car with no faults | Stage 1 |
| Stage 2 and Stage 3 | Exact list of parts fitted | Stage 2, Stage 3 |
| Eco | How the vehicle is used (town, open road, loaded) | Eco |
| Custom functions | Which function and for what use | Custom functions |
| Gearbox control unit (TCU) | Read of the gearbox control unit | Automatic gearboxes |
| Back to stock | Whatever there is: even if the original doesn't exist | Stock software |
| No-start solutions | Symptom and reads of the control units involved | No-start solutions |
We only develop emissions control system deletes for competition vehicles or vehicles that aren't driven on public roads, exactly as if a private customer had brought the car in.
How does the reading method affect things?
Not all reads are equally good:
- Via the diagnostic port (OBD): the most convenient, but on some ECUs it only reads part of the memory. It's usually enough for modifying; as a complete backup, not always.
- On the bench: with the ECU removed and connected via its connector. On many models it reads more areas than via the diagnostic port.
- In boot mode or directly from the memory: by opening the ECU. This gives the most complete copy, and on some modern ECUs it's the only option.
If you tell us the vehicle before reading, we'll tell you which method suits that case. An incomplete read, or one with dropouts, is the most common cause of problems when writing.
Who does what?
| Task | Your garage | Us |
|---|---|---|
| Initial diagnostics and mechanical condition of the car | Yes | We tell you what to check |
| Reading and writing the ECU | Yes | We advise you on the method |
| Backup copy of the original | Yes (always keep it) | We keep the one you send us |
| Developing the modified file | Yes | |
| Informing the end customer about the ITV (Spain's compulsory periodic vehicle inspection, similar to the UK MOT), insurance and warranty | Yes | You'll find the summary in legality, ITV and insurance |
When don't we accept a file?
- Incomplete or corrupted reads, or files that don't match the vehicle you tell us.
- Files that have already been modified, without the original, until it's clear what software we're starting from.
- Deletes for cars that are driven on public roads.
- Cars with unresolved faults that the file could make worse (slipping clutch, damaged turbo, blocked diesel particulate filter (DPF)).
It's not about being awkward: a good file on a bad base ends up with an unhappy customer, and that customer is yours.
Price
The file service is price on request: it depends on the job you ask for and on the ECU. If you're going to send us files regularly, tell us and we'll talk about it. For our other services, see prices.
Message us with the vehicle and the tool you use before reading. We'll confirm whether we can do it, which reading method is best and the price.
